Who are those people surrounding the map?
The radiusIM users that surround the map are physically located somewhere within the map. Moving and zooming the map brings up a new group of people local to that area.

Can I use radiusIM with AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo or GoogleTalk/Jabber?
Yes. You can message your friends on AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk and Jabber using radiusIM.com. Simply click on the corresponding icon at the bottom of the friend window to sign in to any of these services.

What do I need on my computer to run radiusIM?
radiusIM is simply a website so all you need is computer with a web browser and a connection to the internet. We support Internet Explorer version 6.0+, Firefox 1.5+ or Safari 1.2+. You also need to enable Javascript and cookies.

Can other users see my actual location or address?
No. All locations are “blurred” to within 1/4 of a mile. You can additionally hide your location from specific radiusIM users by selecting the “Hide My Location” option for that user.

Does radiusIM have any spyware or adware or spam?
No, never. radiusIM does not have any adware or spyware and we will never sell any of your personal information, including email address, to anyone for any reason.

Are my AIM, MSN, or Yahoo passwords and usernames secure?
You can choose to save your account information for AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk and others in order to speed up the login process. These passwords are encrypted both on our servers and in your browser using 1024-bit RSA keys. In other words, yes, they are totally secure.

Can I only receive IMs from people on my friend list?
Yes, you can choose to only receive IMs from users on your friends list. To enable this, click the settings button and then check the setting that says “Only allow people on my radiusIM Friends List to IM me.”

I forgot my username/password, what do I do?
Click on the ‘forgot?’ link in the login window on the homepage. This link will launch a window where you can enter the email address you registered with to either reset your password or have us send you a username reminder. Both will come in via email at the email you registered with.

How do I edit my profile and upload photos?
Simply click the profile button on top of the map window window. You can also click the settings button and then click on the Photos or Profile tabs for editing.

How do I navigate the map to a new location?
You can pan by dragging the map or clicking the pan arrows. To zoom, simply click the plus and minus signs. You can click “recenter” to return to your location on the map. You can also enter an address to find that location by clicking the address button in the map.

How do I view, filter, or contact nearby locals?
The radiusIM users that surround the map are physically located somewhere within the map. Moving and zooming the map brings up a new group of people local to that area.

You can filter Locals by clicking the filter button. To contact a local, simply double click their picture to message them or right click to see their profile or add them as a friend.

What is the radius widget and how do I get one?
The radius widget is an cool flash app that lets your friends know where you are and what you’re up to. You can embed it anywhere on the web like a Myspace page, blog or wherever.

To get one all you need is a radiusIM account. Sign up and open the settings window by clicking the icon shown below. From here click on the widget tab and you can copy the code right from here. Just paste it in wherever you want the widget to show up.

Whenever you update your headline in your radius profile and your location using the My Location button it will update the widget too!

How do I add or invite friends to radiusIM?
Simply click “Add Friend” on top of your Friend List. From here you can invite friends via email by typing in their email address. You can also import your contacts from GMail, MSN and Yahoo to see who is already on radiusIM and invite others.

How do I change my location and store favorite locations?
Just click and drag the ‘me’ bubble inside the map and place yourself wherever you want. You can also click the address link and type in an address and hit enter. The map will move there and then all you have to do is click in the middle of the map and select ‘place me here’ and you’ll be all set.

You can also save your favorite locations by clicking the globe icon in the map toolbar. Here you’ll see an option for saving current location. You can access all your saved locations by clicking the globe at any time.

What are favorite locals and recent locals?
Favorite locals are radiusIM users that you’ve decided to store or bookmark so you can quickly look them up again. Recent Locals are those users that you have recently messaged with or viewed their profile.

How do I hide my location from a friend or local?
To hide your location from a friend, simply right-click that friend and select “hide my location.” This friend will not see you on their map and your distance will show up as “unknown”, but they will be able to see whether you are online.
To hide your location from a local, simply block that local by right clicking them and selecting “block.” This local will no longer be able to see whether you are online and your location will be automatically hidden.

What are offline messages and how do I send/receive these?
Offline messages are IM’s that are sent to you when you are not online. You will get these upon your next login. You can send an offline message to any radiusIM friend who is offline and they will be delivered upon their next login.

What is the radiusIM Desktop Notifier?
The radiusIM notifier is a nifty little application that alerts you to new IM’s with a small bubble message on the bottom right of your screen just like your email program does. It can also automatically launch radiusIM when you startup your computer. Download it by clicking the settings button and then clicking the notifier tab. The best hidden feature of the notifier is that you can drag the notification window around by the gray title bar.
